Prosecuting Attorney

Deana M. Finnegan

The Prosecuting Attorney is the chief law enforcement official in the County. The Prosecutor reviews, authorizes and prosecutes violations of felony and misdemeanor criminal laws committed inside the County. She represents the People in criminal matters before the District and Circuit Courts. She represents and advises the County Board of Commissioners. The Prosecuting Attorney is elected to a 4 year term by the voters of Shiawassee County on a partisan ballot in the November general election.

Prosecutor Deana M. Finnegan

Deana Finnegan has served Shiawassee County for more than 23 years by working as Assistant Prosecutor, Chief Assistant Prosecutor, and now Prosecuting Attorney.  Deana has worked as the Violence Against Women training attorney for the State of Michigan, and has instructed attorneys and police for the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan and the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards.

A Shiawassee County native, prior to working for the Prosecutor's Office, Deana Finnegan worked as an attorney in Vernon, Michigan.  She and her husband Pat, raised two children in Shiawassee County and continue to live in Corunna.

Deana Finnegan heads an office of five attorneys and six staff, and one canine advocate.
