The District Court was established by the Michigan Legislature in 1968 and is constitutionally and statutorily mandated. District Court has exclusive jurisdiction over the following types of cases:
– Civil cases up to $25,000
– Small claims up to $7,000
– Landlord/Tenant matters
– Land contract forfeitures
– Adult misdemeanor offenses punishable by up to one year imprisonment
– Preliminary examinations in felony cases
– Civil infractions
– Traffic tickets
