Deputy Sheriff/ County Security Officer

General Summary
The County Security Officer promotes safety, security and
orderly behavior within the confines of County buildings. They provide a
visible uniformed presence. Their main responsibilities are to provide order,
protect employees and the public, manage the scanners and metal detectors and
serve as liaisons between the County and the public.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Following are a representative listing of duties and responsibilities.
This list is not exclusive and other duties may be assigned as required.
- Provides a uniformed presence within the confines of
County buildings.
- Greets, directs, and assists visitors.
- Tours and inspects the interior and exterior of the building
and immediate grounds to deter the presence of unsafe or unsecured
conditions.
- Receives daily Court calendar.
- Intervenes and quells disturbances within the facility as
required.
- Operates the scanner and metal detector and screens all
who enter the building to prevent weapons and illegal/dangerous contraband
entering the facility as directed by policy.
- Assists in emergency evacuation and emergency response as
required by policy.
- Protects the privacy and safety of employees.
- Provides security in the facility which includes searching
of visitors.
- Enforce established County policies i.e. smoking, eating, photography;
note taking, dress codes, etc.
- Attends and participates in training sessions as directed
by the County.
- May be assigned to perform Security Officer duties
throughout the various divisions and departments as directed.
- Performs any other related duties as required by the
County.
Note: This is a certified, sworn position, with full police
powers to be used as necessary in the performance of assigned duties.
Wages and Hours
- Part-time up to 24 hours per week (Morning and Afternoon
shifts)
- $12.00 per hour
Employment
Qualifications
Education
- High school graduation, prefer additional classes in law
enforcement.
Experience
- Prefer two years in law enforcement or related field
working with public.
Certifications and License Requirements
- MCOLES certified or certifiable. Certified in CPR and
First Aid. Valid Michigan Operator’s License.
Physical Requirements
- Must be in good physical condition and able to perform
normal police activities. Physical exam required.
